8x8 SSO Login Failure SAML User Does Not Link to Any User

Symptom

Users are unable to log in to 8x8 using Single Sign-On (SSO) and receive the following error message: "The SAML user does not link to any user."

  • Single Sign-On Integration (SSO)
  • Login With Organisation

Resolution

  1. Verify Federation ID Match:
    • Ensure that the Federation ID configured within the 8x8 user profile precisely matches the corresponding identifier on your organisation's identity provider (IdP). Even minor discrepancies, such as extra spaces, can cause this error.
  2. Confirm Federation ID Uniqueness:
    • Confirm that the Federation ID is unique within the 8x8 users. It must not be assigned to any other 8x8 user account.

Cause

The root cause of this issue is a mismatch or duplication of the Federation ID between the 8x8 user profile and the organisation's identity provider. When the SSO process attempts to authenticate the user, the 8x8 system cannot locate a corresponding user account with the provided Federation ID, resulting in the error.
