Phone Number Assignment Fails Due to User First Name Length in 8x8 Admin Console

Symptom

  • Phone numbers cannot be assigned to users.
  • One of the following banner errors may appear:
    • "User settings saved with errors. Failed at extension update."
    • "User settings saved with errors. Failed at Phone Number assistant sending welcome email."

Resolution

As a workaround Workaround:

  • Login to Admin Console, Users, and go to the edit user page.
  • Shorten the user's first name to 30 characters or less.
  • After shortening the name, successfully save the phone number assignment through the Admin Console.
  • This workaround has been tested and confirmed to be successful.

Cause

One of the system's databases has a 30-character limit for user first names. When a user's first name exceeds this limit, an error occurs during phone number assignment.
